Johannesburg, South Africa. August 2012 – Ever-committed to finding, nurturing and exposing emerging photographic talent, Canon South Africa is once again hosting a photo competition for aspiring photographers. This year, entrants can compete in any, or all, of four categories, with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera and an EF40 MM F2.8 STM lens to be won by the best submission in each. Based on the volume of high calibre entries to the 2011 competition, Canon SA’s Marketing Manager, Michelle Janse van Vuuren, says the competition is expected to draw thousands of entries from very-talented photographers from across the country. “We are excited to see the submissions to this year’s competition as it once again invites photographers to be creative and use their individuality in their interpretation of the themes. It is always enormously exciting and enlightening to see how entrants put their personal stamp of perception of the themes onto their photos.
“While we can only choose four winners, the competition is a great platform for emerging photographers to showcase their talents. Selected entries will be featured on our expo website and on the Facebook page. We will also exhibit the top ten entries in each category in the Gallery at the Canon Expo. It is fantastic exposure,” says Janse van Vuuren. Entries to the competition opened on 15 August and photographers have until 23h59 on 15 October 2012 to submit their photos. Participants can enter into one or all of the four themed categories. These are: Reflections; Into the Great Wide Open; Adrenaline and Magic Colours.Entries must be submitted in electronic JPEG format, not exceeding 2Megs, via email. There are four email addresses correlating to the various themes. Entrants must submit their entries to the email address appropriate to the category they are entering namely; firstname.lastname@example.org; email@example.com; firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com
The public can vote for their favourites on the Canon Expo website (www.csaexpo.co.za) or when they visit the gallery at the Canon Expo which takes place from Friday, 30 November to Sunday, 2 December 2012 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Voting for the entries opens on 1 November at 00h01 and closes at 23h59 on 2 December. One winner per category will be selected by a panel of judges and will be announced on 15 January 2013. Janse Van Vuuren concludes with a call to aspiring photographers to get thinking and get clicking. “The themes are open to interpretation and there are no limits to how you want to bring them to life in a picture. We are looking for passion, ingenuity, individuality and creativity. This competition is open to anyone who is happiest behind the lens of a camera.”
