The recent launch event of Africacom also kicked off the celebrations for the 20th anniversary of what is described as Africa’s largest, influential, technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) conference and exhibition.
2017 celebrates 20 years of AfricacomThe launch event set the scene for November’s main event, due to take place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 7–9 November 2017.
“2017 is a landmark for Africacom. Over the past two decades, we have grown from being a purely telecommunications-focused event, to a broad digital communications show now hosting the foremost group of influencers involved in every aspect of the African digital ecosystem,” explained Tom Cuthell, portfolio director of KNect365 (organiser of the show).
“As the digi-sphere continues to expand and impact every aspect of our personal and professional lives, Africacom has grown in scope to create a broad platform for everybody involved in powering the digital economy in Africa. I am delighted to share some of the fresh developments that will continue to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation anchoring it for the future of the fourth industrial revolution.”
The ‘technology arena’ – located in the CTICC’s new extension – an exhibition hall dedicated to mapping Africa’s journey through the fourth industrial revolution. This will host:
Africacom 20/20 – the centrepiece and base of the 20th-anniversary celebrations. A vibrant, interactive, buzzing place to see digital solutions from top innovators; interact with next generation technologies in specially designed demo pods, and listen to thought provoking dialogue around ‘providing clarity of vision on future tech trends’.
The new innovation stage – that will showcase ICT solutions affecting the converging TMT industries in Africa. Lively debate and discussion on topics such as eHealth and ICT4D, with quick-fire presentations, and product pitches will be the order of the day.
The ‘technology arena’ will also be the new home for the AHUB – Africacom’s matchmaking centre for startups and investors; and TV connect Africa – the confluence of broadcast, telecoms, content and new media experts in Africa, intent on developing commercial models for ITC across digital Africa.
Three days of networking, content, and tech will also showcase new opportunities in artificial intelligence, the internet of things (IoT), big data, fintech, blockchain, digital skills, and more.
The calibre of the 400 speakers is a major drawcard. Conference tracks such as visions for Africa keynotes, SDN and NFV, mobile finance and e-commerce in Africa, enterprise ICT, and connecting Africa, as well as LTE Africa, will deliver the latest advances in their respective areas.
Some of the luminaries to present their insights are; Herman Singh, group chief digital officer, MTN; John Momoh (OON), chairman & CEO, Channels Media Group; Is’haq Modibbo Kawu, director general, National Broadcasting Commission; Joseph Hundah, CEO, Econet Media.
The annual Africacom Awards will once again highlight leaders in their respective fields and entries for these industry heavyweight acknowledgments were now open.
Launched in 2016, AFEST returns to Shimmy Beach Club for a night of high-energy entertainment, echoing the vibrancy of Africacom 2017. Featuring a lineup of local and international artists, partygoers have the chance to network and celebrate African technology.

Caterpillar Inc is an exceptional world renowned brand and needed a custom exhibition stand for their presence at the Mining Indaba 2017 Conference and Exhibition, recently held at the Cape Town Convention Centre (CTICC). We produced a stand that both puts the CAT brand in the spotlight it deserves but also allowing for the B2B connections that are made at a show such as Mining Indaba.

The company principally operates through its three product segments – Construction Industries, Resource Industries and Energy & Transportation – and also provides financing and related services through its Financial Products segment.

To keep abreast of the the latest happenings within the global exhibition industry, HOTT3D sent Key Account Manager, Farrah Weir, to the annual IFES World Summit held in late June.
IFES, the International Federation of Exhibition & Event Services, held the event in the South of France at Le Grande Motte. The Summit was a gathering of international stand builders with a strong focus on networking and knowledge sharing over a packed three day summit.
The summit is designed to bring industry suppliers from across the globe together in a relaxed and easy environment whereby new connections are made, knowledge shared and collaborative workshops held.
This all creates a great space for people to unite and share their common experience and knowledge as well as develop international contacts to facilitate expansion of international business.
The Summit consisted of a structured and very busy three day event with numerous workshops and speakers, detailing subjects such as, Marketing, Education and Sustainability within the industry.
Highlights of the workshops and speakers included:
Martin Joos from Adunic sharing the emotions of our industry.
Pablo Nakhle-Cerruti brought the theme of how venues can transform events into different experiences.
Detlef Wintzen from Insglueck reflected on the German story of future energy.
A collaboration workshop hosted by Jeremy Stubbs where delegates were divided into groups and asked to look into questions such as demands for IFES and exhibition expectations, how the industry is changing and solutions.
The annual AGM also took place which discussed the annual review and presentations of the actions of IFES over the last year as well as a new member induction, which allowed new members, including HOTT3D to take the stage, introduce themselves and their companies.
Numerous social networking opportunists were also worked into the schedule including a beer and wine tasting event, nightly evening dinners and gala last night, all to aid getting to know fellow attendees from around the world.
In conclusion the experience at IFES was exceptionally positive and gave HOTT3D valuable insights into our global industry. IFES created a welcoming, warm and friendly environment whereby one felt apart of a community that was genuine and sincere. The networking was overwhelmingly brilliant and the knowledge shared and gained irreplaceable.
Farrah concluded that she thought the summit was a successful and beneficial experience and couldn’t wait to go back in 2018, where the event will be held in Chicago.
